Maria Chenowith

Co-Founder, Charity Super.Mkt

With over 30 years of purposeful retail experience, Maria Chenoweth is a passionate advocate for the power and purpose of wearing and shopping secondhand and a leading spokesperson for the charity retail sector.

As CEO of the charity TRAID, Maria drives the organisation’s vision and leads its work to tackle the global socio-environmental impacts of the fashion industry. TRAID keeps clothes in use for longer by providing the public with reuse services and its highly acclaimed charity shops, as well as funding projects that support the people and places making our clothes, from organic cotton production to providing day care centres for the children of garment workers.

Joining TRAID in 1999 as Head of Retail and becoming the CEO in 2003, Maria turned a failing charity into a bright, successful organisation, which has since become one of London and the UK’s best-loved charity retailers.

Since completing an MBA with The Open University, Maria is currently a Fellow within the Faculty of Business and Law, developing innovative post graduate content on the transition to a green economy.

In 2023, along with Wayne Hemingway, she co-founded Charity Super.Mkt – the UK’s first ever multi-charity shop, which brings local and national charities together, all retailing under one roof.
