Louise Graves

Deputy Manager, Pets at Home

Louise started off when she was 16 in a little paper shop in the middle of Macclesfield. Following on from that she began working within the retail sector in places like Argos and Chester Zoo and was there for three years before making the move to start her career within Pets at Home.

She began working for Pets at Home in February 2015 as a Store Colleague. The combination of both her loves for retail and animals intertwined into the perfect job role at Pets at Home. Having heard how well Pets at Home treat their colleagues and the career opportunities they are offered, this ticked all her boxes.

Louise began her journey as a 16 hour Store Colleague in the Chester store and was in this role until 2017 where she progressed through the different levels of management starting with being a Keyholder, and an Assistant Manager. In 2018 she moved to the Rhyl store to continue her growth and progression before returning back to the Chester store in 2019 as a newly promoted Deputy Store Manager.

Her day-to-day role is based around supporting the Store Manager in the general running of the store. This includes the usual aspects of a job in retail such as; working deliveries; cash handling; managing the team and organising rotas as well as advising and assisting customers with any pet queries. By far the most rewarding part of her job is helping customers with their pets’ needs and hearing of noticeable positive changes to the family and their pet through the advice given. Whether it is helping a new puppy customer choose their first harness, or advice on a different food, or toy. Animals aren’t just pets to customers, they are family so helping them with their needs is a huge privilege to watch their journey from start to finish.

Her biggest personal achievement is obtaining her BSc Honours Degree in Animal Sciences (Behaviour and Welfare) this has helped shape the person she is today. In her spare time she lives with her two cats Riley & Maisie. She enjoys wild camping and walks in the countryside, going to the gym and seeing friends.
